California Cool Air Rebate Program
Save Up to 90% on Qualifying Automotive A/C Repairs
Proline Auto Repair is an approved participating Cool Air Rebate repair facility.
How Much Can the Cool Air Rebate Cover?
- 90% — Program coverage on eligible repair costs
- $1,500 — Maximum program payment per eligible vehicle
- 10% — Customer portion on qualifying repairs within the program limit
For an eligible repair costing up to approximately $1,666.70, the program pays 90% and the customer pays the remaining 10%.
Once the eligible repair amount exceeds $1,666.70, the program reaches its maximum contribution of $1,500 and the customer is responsible for the remaining amount.
- Example: $400 qualifying repair — Program: $360; Customer: $40
- Example: $1,000 qualifying repair — Program: $900; Customer: $100
- Example: $2,000 qualifying repair — Program: $1,500 maximum; Customer: $500
Examples only — not estimates. Program terms can change; check the official Cool Air Rebate Program for final eligibility and benefit information.
Who May Qualify?
The customer generally must:
- Live in California
- Meet current program income requirements
- Own the eligible vehicle
- Have an eligible privately owned vehicle
- Have an A/C system using R-134a refrigerant
- Have a verified R-134a refrigerant leak
- Receive program approval before covered work is performed
Current program information says qualifying vehicles generally include cars manufactured between 1993 and 2019, or certain older vehicles converted to R-134a. Income eligibility is currently based on 225% of the 2026 Federal Poverty Guidelines.
Program requirements are subject to change. Final eligibility is determined by the Cool Air Rebate Program.
R-1234yf Vehicles Do Not Currently Qualify
The Cool Air Rebate currently applies only to qualifying vehicles with leaking R-134a refrigerant.
Vehicles using R-1234yf are not currently eligible for this program.
Proline can still diagnose and service R-1234yf A/C systems outside of the rebate program.
Current program rules also exclude commercial-use vehicles, including vehicles used for rideshare or delivery services.
What Happens With the A/C Diagnostic?
If the diagnosis confirms an eligible repair and the customer approves the qualifying repair, the program currently pays 100% of the eligible diagnostic fee.
If the repair does not qualify or the customer chooses not to proceed, the program currently pays 90% of the eligible diagnostic fee and the customer is responsible for the remaining 10%.
How the Process Works
Check Eligibility
Complete the official Cool Air Rebate pre-qualification process.
Receive Approval
You must receive program approval before covered repairs are performed. Repairs completed before program approval may not qualify.
Bring the Vehicle to Proline
Proline diagnoses the A/C system and determines whether there is a qualifying R-134a refrigerant leak.
Approve the Repair
If the repair meets program requirements, you approve the repair and Proline handles the repair and applicable program billing.
